Mindfulness and Meditation are useful techniques for those who may be open to finding peaceful moments where they can focus their breathing, become aware of feelings and sensations, enjoy calm and stillness without judgement or fear. There are several techniques that can be taught for use during stressful moments or to help relax at the end of the day to improve sleep.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an action-based therapy style that will require client participation to work on identifying and changing negative thoughts and behaviors, often replacing or reframing them with a more 'realistic' view of situations experience, thus allowing a greater sense of well-being. Distress may distort and exaggerate our views, CBT keeps focus on strengths and offers helpful tools for coping with stress and trauma.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a different therapy style that helps in managing intense and complex emotions. It has often helped those who struggle with emotional dysregulation and has also been shown to aid in a variety of situations such as self-harm risk, suicidality, severe anxiety, post traumatic stress, substance use disorder and more.
